Description
Tens of thousands of shorebirds descend on the mudflats of Grays Harbor each spring to super-charge their food reserves as they are migrating to their breeding grounds on the tundra. Wave after a of wave of shorebirds fill the air with flashing wings! Dozens of shorebirds can be seen feeding busily on the mud flats of the Grays Harbor NWR. There will be experts there to help you learn about the birds. The viewing is free! The viewing site on the boardwalk is approximately 1 mile from the parking area. It is an easy walk on flat terrain and is handicap accessible.
Festival Headquarters
On Friday, until 3 p.m., events start or are located at the Grays Harbor NWR Office on Airport Way. Also on Friday from 4pm to 7 pm the Festival headquarters will be at Hoquiam High School. On Saturday, the festival headquarters is at the Hoquiam High School. Many field trips to other birding sites in the area are also available for a small fee to cover expenses.
The Annual Shorebird Festival is May 1-3, 2015.
