SUMMARY:Shrove Tuesday Pancake Race
DESCRIPTION:Shrove Tuesday is the day in February or March immediately preceding Ash Wednesday. Some countries celebrate the day by eating pancakes\, which is why the day is also known as Pancake Day. In the United Kingdom\, pancake races are held in villages and towns. The tradition originated in 1445 when a housewife from Buckinghamshire was making pancakes and forgot the time until she heard the church bells ringing for the service. She raced to the church while still carrying her frying pan and tossed the pancake to prevent it from burning.\n\nWant to Race?\n\nPacket Pickup/Registration begins at 8:00 a.m. at the Summit Pacific Parking Lot. Race begins at 9:00 a.m.\n\nThere will be a Competitive Dash and a Family Dash. All registrants receive a race T-shirt.\n\nBring a frying pan. Pancakes will be provided. Got a fashionable apron or hat? Costumes are encouraged!\n\nPrizes awarded to 1st and 2nd place finishers and best costume\n\nRace route: Start line will be at the Fire Department\, and runners will run to the VFW Hall and back. Course length is just over a quarter of a mile or roughly 1\,400 feet.\n\n\n\nRace proceeds benefit the McCleary Civic Renewal Council. Special thanks to Summit Pacific Medical Foundation and the City of McCleary for helping us put on this event.
