Description
St. James's Gate brings their eclectic blend of Celtic, Irish and many other vocal and musical genres to the Harbor's historic 7th Street Theatre in downtown Hoquiam. St. James's Gate will be performing as an "Irish power quartet." Their music offers dynamic vocals, three-part harmonies, scorching hot fiddle, funky upright acoustic/electric bass, tight acoustic rhythm guitar and precision percussion. Hailing from Portland, OR, St. James’s Gate specializes in a wide range of Celtic music, including beautiful Irish ballads and waltzes, faster than lightning jigs and reels, traditional pub songs and contemporary Irish tunes. The band also incorporates bluegrass, polka, Cajun, and classic English/American rock and folk songs in their broad and exciting repertoire. Opening the evening will be "Percussion Concussion," a group of current and former Hoquiam High School Band students who share a love of drumming. Over the past few years they have prepared a number of traditional percussion ensembles. Last year the group dazzled audiences with a "trash can" percussion piece entitled "Percussion Concussion" that included choreography and lighting effects. Five of the students performed at the regional ensemble festival in 2006 where they earned a Superior rating and were first alternate to the State Ensemble contest. In February of this year they won their division of the Chinook Music Educators Association regional ensemble contest and will compete in the State Contest April 27 at Central Washington University. Members include Colby Black, Buck Giles, Tessa Pawelko, Ben Protheroe, Gina Smith, Brandon Walker, and Michael White.
