Harbor Regional Health (HRH) welcomed US Congresswoman Emily Randall to Community Hospital on Friday, April 3, in recognition of her successful effort to secure $1 million in Community Project Funding to support the hospital’s transition to the Meditech Expanse electronic medical record system.
During her visit, Congresswoman Randall toured several key areas of the hospital, including the Cardiac Cath Lab, the Healing Gallery, and the Family Birth Center, where she viewed the newly completed nursery. She also met with clinical and organizational leaders, including Chief Nursing Officer Shannon Johnson and Family Birth Center Director Lisha Schnoor, as well as members of the HRH Board of Commissioners: Board Chair Chris Thomas, Commissioner David Quigg, and Commissioner John Shaw.
“Congresswoman Randall’s support has helped our hospital take an important step forward by upgrading to a modern electronic medical record system that will improve patient care across our community. We appreciate her taking the time to visit and see our work firsthand. Rural hospitals continue to face significant challenges, especially as federal funding policies evolve, and strong support from our federal delegation is more important than ever.” Chris Thomas, Chair, Board of Commissioners, Grays Harbor Public Hospital District #2
In recognition of her support for healthcare in the region, Congresswoman Randall was presented with the Harbor Healthcare Hero award by Director of Marketing and PR Chris Majors.
The $1 million federal investment will directly support HRH’s implementation of Meditech Expanse, a modern, unified electronic medical record system that will replace outdated platforms and connect care across the hospital and medical group.
“This investment represents more than technology, it is an investment in how care is delivered across our community,” said CEO Tom Jensen. “With Meditech Expanse, our teams will have a single, integrated view of each patient, which means fewer delays, better coordination, and safer care. We are grateful to Congresswoman Randall for recognizing the importance of this work and for helping us take a meaningful step forward. This is a foundational upgrade that will support our patients, our teams, and the future of healthcare in Grays Harbor County.”
The Meditech Expanse system will unify inpatient and outpatient records, improve interoperability with regional partners and VA systems, and enhance both patient safety and care coordination. With more than 80 percent of HRH patients relying on government-funded insurance programs, this investment strengthens the hospital’s ability to deliver efficient, high-quality care while maintaining critical services for the community.
HRH’s implementation of Meditech Expanse is currently underway, with a planned go-live date of May 1, 2026.
